What is Race for Reading?
Together we are aiming to travel around the world in 80 days, raising crucial funds for Schoolreaders so we can provide one-to-one reading support sessions for thousands of primary school children across the country.
You can walk, run, cycle, swim or even hop to complete your miles over the course of 80 days. Simply decide if you want to take part alone or as part of a team, set your own mileage goal and decide how you want to complete your challenge. All miles completed will go towards our 25,000 mile goal.
When is Race for Reading?
The race will launch on March 31st and run until June 19th 2022.
Where is Race for Reading?
There is no specific location for the race. You can cover your miles anywhere -- in your local park or at home running up the stairs! The choice is yours…
Is there a registration fee?
No. There is no registration fee but every individual that raises a minimum of £30 will receive a medal after the close of the Challenge. Every £300 raised will provide weekly reading support for 10 children for a whole year.
How do I sign up?
Click here to create your individual fundraising page. Set your mileage and fundraising goal and simply share your page with people who may sponsor you. Even if you will be joining a team, you will need to sign up individually first.
How do I set up a team page?
You can take on the race with friends, colleagues or family. You just need to set up your individual page first, then click edit page and navigate to the ‘Team’ tab. Make sure you have decided on a team name, fundraising target and mileage goal when setting up your team page. When your team members sign up just tell them about the team page and they can connect their fundraising page with the team.
How do I edit the team page?
You are only able to edit the team’s page if you were the one who created it. If you are the creator, you can click the ‘Edit page’ button where you will see the option to edit your team page. You will be able to edit the team name, fundraising target and story.
How do I join a team?

How do I log my miles?
You can track your miles using a fitness app such as Strava - this can be linked straight to your fundraising page to give your supporters regular updates on how you are getting on. To link Strava to your fundraising page click ‘Connect to Strava’ which is a button on your page. If you are not using Strava you can input your miles manually by clicking on ‘Log Miles’ on your page. This will automatically link to your team page if you are part of a team.
How long do I have to complete my challenge?
The challenge launches on March 31st 2022, and you have 80 days to complete your challenge with the last day being June 19th 2022. Depending on your chosen target, you may well complete your challenge sooner. You may sign up after March 31st but you will have less than 80 days to complete your challenge.

Who are Schoolreaders?
Schoolreaders was founded in 2013 to improve childhood literacy throughout the UK. Our Schoolreaders volunteers are currently providing weekly one-to-one reading support sessions to over 7,000 primary school children across the country. By the end of this academic year, we hope to support over 12,000 children per week.
Even prior to Covid-19, 1 in 4 children left primary school unable to read well. With the disruption to education caused by the pandemic, the situation has become even worse, particularly for the most disadvantaged children who have fallen even further behind.
Our aim is to increase these children’s life chances by offering a vital service, free of charge to schools. To find out more please visit www.schoolreaders.org
